Why should swivel casters be made into offset models? Can't they turn without offset? Then can't universal balls, also known as bull's eye platforms, also turn? Let us explain to you how to keep the direction of the wheel consistent with the forward direction during driving, so that it can save more effort. 

 

I don't know how to say the professional terms, this is my understanding. Universal balls, also known as bull's eye platforms, can't turn? Offset wheels, to turn, you need to add external turning force. 

 

"off set wheels" can turn at will without external turning force. Imagine pushing such a small car, it is not easy to go in a straight line. The car always shakes left and right. The larger the offset spacing, the greater the steering torque, and the less effort it takes to turn. Universal balls can "turn sideways", and wheels can only turn around the axis, not sideways. The caster offset arrangement is deliberately made unstable. The friction torque generated by the offset will force the wheel plane to be consistent with the direction of travel. If the wheel is before the vertical axis, the "articulated rod" is under pressure when walking, it will become unstable, turn around and become under tension. After the wheel is converted to the vertical axis, the compression rod becomes a tension rod.

 

Because there is a wheel below, there is only one direction when moving on the plane (movement requirements), and the contact point between the spherical surface of the universal ball and the plane can move arbitrarily in the plane. Therefore, adding offset, offset and wheel cooperation can make any "universal ball" under force when rotating! The rotation of the universal ball also requires rotation torque!

 

The force point of the swivel caster is not the center of the ball in the vertical direction, but the large point between the rotating ball bracket and the ball in the horizontal direction! The outer ring of the wheel can be polyurethane, rubber, etc. The universal ball is only metal, the shock absorption is not good, the ground will also wear the big ball, and the small ball inside will also be damaged.
