According to the different requirements for flexible use of casters, the casters have the following design options: three casters of equal height are suitable for light loads, and precision instruments can travel in all directions. Linear motion in this arrangement is comparable to curved motion. However, movement flexibility is poor on narrow passages. An alternative is to use a wheelset instead of a steering wheel and two single wheels on the same axis.
The wheel height in the middle of the four steering wheels is slightly higher. This is a cheap and inexpensive way to arrange casters. It runs well in a straight line and turns easily. With this arrangement, the vehicle is prone to tipping over. An alternative could be a single steering wheel in place of a wheel pair and two coaxial lines. Two universal joints, two buggies work well and can turn nimbly. This structure is used on flat ground, otherwise the instrument will easily tip over. The alternative is to change the directional wheel to a wheel pair and two single wheels on the same axis.
Four swivel wheels of the same height are suitable for narrow passages as the vehicle can move well in all directions. But it is not easy to control the straight direction of the vehicle. There should be at least a locking direction device on the caster mount to improve this situation.
Four swivel casters, two steering wheels, and equal installation heights are a high-cost wheel arrangement.
